Postcards from the Past have been produced by Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga for the Beca Christchurch Heritage Festival 2019.

After the Canterbury earthquakes, we amassed new archaeological and historical information about central Christchurch. We want to share that with as many people as possible.

We hope the postcards will make you curious about the history of our city, and that you’ll enjoy putting the pictures on your pinboard or fridge, too.

While the physical postcards are now no longer available to collect from around the city, this website will stay up to share the postcards and the stories behind them.

For the stories behind each postcard, click on the postcard images on the HOME page.

PS: The messages on these postcards are works of fiction; public events and places to which they refer are historical facts.
